My name is Aleta and I live in sunny Queensland! I’m a compulsive creator so I guess it only makes sense that I’m an artist!
I have a Fine Arts Degree and more recently a background in luxury fashion. I love fine details as you will probably notice by my work!
My work focuses on two main areas:
1. Illustration - Food, fashion and portraits in watercolour and ink. You can follow me on Instagram at aletabatesillustration
2. Portraiture - Hyper realist pencil portraits on used and recycled brown paper bags like this beautiful lady who took me just over 200hours to create. This work is part of a project I created in 2018 known as the A Thousand Portraits Project that will continue until 1000 portraits from around the world, are completed. the faces I draw are heavily marginalised and at the greatest risk of being affected my climate change. I hope my work highlights the invisible human faces of our changing climate.
My work in 2019- 2020 will focus on the region of Nepal where I traveled to in March in order to capture the subjects I will reference for my work. This project was sponsored by Kathmandu Adventure Sponsorship, Staedtler Australia and CJ Hendry.
I love working in two different styles- it keeps things fresh and means I never get artist’s block!
It doesn’t matter if your project is commercial or private, I’d love to work with you and take the utmost care to deliver digital or physical works you have in mind, no matter the size of the project.
If you're interested in licensing or commissioning works, please contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll be happy to discuss proposals and estimates.
